Upcoming Compact Sedan in India
Compact sedans are the latest buzzword in the automotive space and are viable alternatives to pricey sedans. Compact sedans are mid-size cars that are shorter than 4 metres in length, pack in a decent boot size and are easy to drive. The reduced rear seat leg room and trunk space of compact sedans not only gives them additional excise benefits, but also gives you the premium feel of a sedan at a much lesser cost. Here is a list of compact sedans that are going to hit the Indian roads soon.
Mahindra Verito CS
Compact Sedan is a little known term to most Indian car consumers even though there are few car models being sold in this segment for a while. Mahindra recently launched a sedan after it removed off Renault badge from Logan. It modified Logan model a bit and released Mahindra Verito. Now the company is all prepared to take on Maruti Suzuki and Tata by chopping of some amount of boot space from Mahindra Verito to make it fit into Compact Sedan segment. The result would be Mahindra Verito CS which is a car less than 4 meters in length and has comfort level and performance in line with a sedan model. The only change would be reduced boot space.
Mahindra Verito which is available in 1.4L petrol and 1.5L diesel models currently may retain the same power train. However some contradicting rumors state that the petrol engine would not be available with Mahindra Verito CS model. All other features and specs would remain the same except for boot volume and rear body design. The company would have to take care to see that Mahindra Verito CS does not turn disproportionate while trying to cut down on boot space. This could destroy the overall looks of the car.
By cutting down on length of the car the company gets benefit in terms of reduced excise duty. Mahindra Verito CS could have a lighter price tag as compared to Verito model. Mahindra Verito CS is expected to be rolled out during second quarter of 2013 and it is expected to be priced in the range Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6.8 lakh.
