Upcoming Small Cars in India
The Indian auto market is expected to be flooded with a swarm of small cars manufactured by both Indian and foreign car manufactures according to a survey conducted by auto experts. Here is a list of the Upcoming Small Cars that are looking to enter the Indian auto market.
Tata Indica V3
Tata Motors is actively targeting the market for diesel cars. After the Safari DICOR, Tata is looking to launch a new range of small cars with direct common rail (DICOR) diesel engines. The first of Tata’s small cars to see this change is the Indica V3, as it is currently named. The V3 is based on a completely new platform and will be exported to the European market. This may be the reason why the instrument cluster of this new car is placed in the centre of the dashboard instead of behind the steering wheel. Even though this car may be launched under a different name, it was unveiled at the 2008 Auto Expo as the Indica V3 and is expected to provide tough competition to the Maruti Suzuki Swift Diesel. Compared to its existing counterpart, the Indica V2, the V3 is taller, wider and longer for better and more comfortable space within the car cabin. The V3 diesel variant is expected to come with a 1.3-litre Quadra jet DICOR engine, which will be provided by Fiat (Tata’s partners) and is the same engine as that used in the Swift. A probable petrol variant may make its way to the Indian market with a 1.2-litre Safire MPFI VVT engine. The Tata Indica V3 is anticipated to launch in the last quarter of 2008 or first quarter of 2009. The estimated starting price of the Indica V3 in India is expected to be Rs 3.9 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
