Toyota Prius Hybrid
Toyota Prius made a brief appearance at an engineering fair in Delhi in 2007. The Prius gas electric Hybrid is likely to hit the Indian market in mid-2008. The car is powered by two engines - the 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 76 bhp and the battery powered engine that delivers 67 bhp. Toyota’s synergy drive system can accelerate to 30 km/h from stationary mode in 3 seconds. The electronically controlled continuously variable transmission allows the driver an easy handling. Batteries are recharged using regenerative braking or by running the onboard generator. The tailpipe emits zero evaporative emission. The company offers a special warranty on emission control components. The Prius Hybrid is a step closer to the ultra-low emission vehicle certification. It is expected to have an estimated starting price of Rs 17 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
