Tata Xenon XT is the vehicle for you, if you do not believe in ‘horses for the courses’ theory; yes, it is a versatile vehicle, serves multi-purposes, conquers all terrains, and gives you comfortable ride anywhere. This MPV/SUV/pick-up, call it what you will, was displayed at India’s largest auto expo recently by the largest automobile manufacturer of India, the Tatas. Xenon XT caught the imagination with its stylish mat finish and the stance. Here is a brief look at the capabilities of this rugged and stylish vehicle.
Tata Xenon XT complies with BS-III emission standards and offers choice of 4x4 or 4x2. Officially labeled Tata Xenon XT Ex 4x2 and 4x4, both the versions have same type of variable turbine technology, 32 bit fully electronically controlled engine. The 2.2L DOHC engine pumps through 16 valves to develop 138 BHP at 4000 rpm and the 320 Nm torque, it generates provides acceleration when needed most.
The 4x4 Xenon XT has a shift-on-fly option a limited slip differential that prompts the axle. Using the shift-on-fly (or SOF,) you can change from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive automatically, without stopping and selecting the dive mode beforehand. This facility is a definite advantage over the usual ‘part time 4-wheel drive’ vehicles. In other words, when you encounter a stretch of mediocre quality road, you can easily engage the 4WD mode of the Xenon XT; and revert to 2WD, when you return on to a friendlier surface. Particularly, when confronted with a tight turning circle (say project areas or ghat sections,) drivers will thank Xenon’s SOF.
Both the Tata Xenon XT variants have high ground clearance of 200-mm. Approach anglesigned with an approach angle of 24 degrees, ramp break over angle of 15 degrees, and the departure angle of 21 degrees. All this jargon of degrees means simply this; the Xenon XT can pass over humps and ridges more easily than most other vehicles, without the underside getting hurt. The 4WD special grip helps to negotiate even gravelly, sandy, or even snow-covered roads.
While power steering and G-76-, 5/4.1 synchromesh with Overdrive gearbox help you to drive the effortlessly, Xenon XT is equipped with vacuum assisted independent hydraulic brakes under the foot; these respond quickly for proper control.
Both the versions of Tata Xenon XT, the Ex 4x2 and Ex 4x4 seat five adults; and have adjustable lumbar support seats. HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) enabled interiors are done up in trendy charcoal grey; set off by a silver centre console. Leather wrapped steering wheel (adjustable and tilting,) and door trim with fabric inserts; the design with an eye on creating a feeling of space, complete the sophistication for Tata Xenon XT.
Going forward with the luxury theme, small but several features for convenience have been added by Tata. Xenon XT’s outer mirrors, side rearview mirrors are electrically adjustable; second-row seats are completely foldable, and the fuel cap can be operated remotely. 12 V power Point on the floor console, spot-reading lamps, height adjustable front seat belts, illuminated ignition key slot, and window winding switches; well the list is long and you can assume that most of the conveniences for everyday driving pleasure, are available on the Tata Xenon XT.
Owners who want even more can jazz up their Xenon XTs further. The open deck behind the cabin, for instance can be lined with soft bed liner, if you transport expensive commercial loads around frequently. You can change over to a lockable boot and protect the luggage from weather and dust. Opt for the canopy that matches the Xenon XT body colors, if you want to enhance the SUV looks. With factory fitted roof-rails that ‘increase’ the luggage space, you can put the SUV to commercial use too. And, if you have to drive during nights over uneven roads often, you can have the Tata Xenon XT fitted with roof lights.
While designing Xenon XT, Tatas have taken considerable care about the passengers as also the vehicle. Many of these double as safety and convenience features, for instance the tubeless tyres, contribute to smoother rides, and also minimize the skid, should there be a puncture. Similarly, keyless entry and central locking act as anti-theft protection and also make getting in or out easy. For the children, there is anchorage and safety lock on the rear-doors. Anti-submarine seats ensure that passengers do not slide forward, when you brake suddenly. Xenon XT’s headlamp leveling ability is sure to catch your appreciation, when driving at nights.
Rs. 9.37 Lakh for the Xenon XT Ex 4x2 and Rs. 10.36 Lakh for Tata Xenon XT Ex 4x4 are the approximate starting prices; your Tata dealer will work out the exact cost, depending upon entry tax, and other local levies. Take test drive and if required, check out the in-house financing options.
As a tail-spark, this should be mentioned; Tata Xenon XT comes in four body colors, each of them with a stylish finish to create a distinct presence.
