2012 Tata Nano
Tata Motors Ltd has launched a revamped version of the Nano, The car which was launched for the first time at the 9th annual Auto Expo in 2008 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The new Nano, priced at Rs1,75,000 and above, has been endowed with more style and better features. The hatchback continues to be a rear engine passenger city car, re-designed with improved seats for better cushioning. The car, customized for the Indian families, is now eight percent smaller and 23% more spacious than the Maruti 800. Customised for the rough Indian terrain, the 2012 Nano can effortlessly make way through the busy city roads and also the rural pathways. The 2012 Tata Nano comes with an unmatched warrant of four years or 60,000 kilometres, whichever is earlier, taking up the attraction for the budget car. The car is even more accessible to the common man now as the new Tata Nano can be purchased from over 676 outlets at a very low down payment starting from Rs15,000 and upto 60 months of tenure to repay the balance amount.
2012 Tata Nano: Engine and Power and Mileage/ Fuel Efficiency
The new Nano is powered by a two-cylinder 624 cc MPFi petrol engine which generates a maximum power of 37 bhp at 5500 rpm. Maximum torque of 51 Nm is produced at 4000 rpm. The new Nano performs better than the old version, giving a better fuel efficiency. TML claims that the new Nano gives a mileage of 18-20 kmpl on the city roads and 25 kmpl on the highways. The 2012 Nano can accelerate from 0 to 60 km in 8 seconds and from 0 to 100 km in 12.6 seconds, achieving a top speed of 105 kmph.
Tata Nano 2012: Variants and Choice of Colors
The new 2012 Tata Nano is available in Tata Nano 2012 Standard, Tata Nano 2012 CX and Tata Nano 2012 LX variants. The Tata Nano 2012 Standard is available in three colour options, Rouge Red, Aqua Blue and Serene White. The variant provides with clear headlamps, tubeless tyres and a tip tap driver side mirror apart from booster assisted brakes and front suspension with anti-roll bar. The interiors are finished with dual tone vinyl seats. The rear seat has an option to be folded down.
The Tata Nano 2012 CX is available is six color options, Rouge Red, Champagne Gold, Neon Rush, Neteor Silver, Papaya Orange and Serene White. This variant offers the best-in-class air conditioning with an option for heating apart from a parcel shelf, booster assisted brakes, tip-tap mirrors on both the driver and passenger sides with half wheel covers.
The Tata Nano 2012 LX is the top end variant of the new Nano and is available in six premium color options, Pearl White, Papaya Orange, Mojito Green, Sunshine Yellow, Meteor Silver and Champagne Gold. The car features premium beige fabric seats, central locking, door handles, front power windows, cup holder it the front console, fog lamps and electronic trip meter amongst other features.
Tata Nano 2012: Exteriors
The Tata Nano 2012 has been designed to be a very sporty and compact hatchback. The 2012 version of the revamped car has a centre crease on the bonnet with side scoops which helps to maintain the coolness of the rear mounted engine. The rear end of the car currently looks more like the Indica Vista with vertical tail lamps. TML has put in efforts to enhance the style quotient of the new car with a rear spoiler and sunroof. Other changed effected to the old Nano include new design for the wheel caps, improved NVH levels, rear view mirrors on both sides.
Tata Nano 2012: Interiors
The new Nano 2012 has been designed to be a true family car, accommodating four people. The hatchback with four doors has a roomy passenger compartment with good leg and head room for both the front and rear seats. The 2012 Nano has been designed in a way to accommodate luggage in the front since the engine is featured in the rear end. The car offers various interior and exterior color options to customize as per customer preferences. The seats, wheelcaps and headrests of the new car have a new design while the centre console has been designed with a silver finish. The car has rear view mirrors on either sides. The top end version of the Nano 2012, the LX, features three spoke steering wheel while the base model features a simple two spoke steering system.
Tata Nano 2012: Safety Features
The 2012 Tata Nano is a light weight car, built using lightweight steel, necessitating lesser power. The car features front disc and rear drum brakes. TML has done a magnificent job in building the Nano, keeping the costs low without compromising on the safety and performance. The car features a strong passenger compartment with safety features including anti crumple zones, intrusion resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages. The safety is further enhanced with tubeless tyres. The grip levels of the 2012 Nano have been found to be very good, though they are limited by the narrow tyres. The straight-line stability allows one to cruise comfortably at 80-90 kmph.
Tata Nano 2012: Reviews
The Tata Group has done an excellent job in building the Nano 2012, keeping the prices low without compromising on the safety features. Though the cost of the hatchback could exceed Rs2 lakh when the road and other taxes are added, the car is still worth each penny, due to its features and safety parameters. Some users of the Nano have found the car to be cool and comfortable to drive. The services offered by the Tata Group have also found to be very good.
