Tata Indigo CS
Tata Indigo, the second most popular car of the Tata stables after the Indica series, was first launched in 2008. The compact sedan version of the Tata Indigo, Indigo CS claims to hold the title as the shortest sedan in the world, with the length of a hatchback and the appearance and space of a full fledged sedan. The car, built on the existing Indigo platform, has been well crafted and endowed with very exciting features, making its mark as the most fuel efficient sedan in India. The Indigo CS has a small boot, bringing the car in the sub-four metres category, thereby qualifying it for excise concessions. The car is available at a very attractive price of Rs4.64 to Rs5.98 lakhs.
Tata Indigo CS Choice of Colours and Variants
Tata Indigo CS offers a choice of BS III and BS IV complaint cars. The BS III compliant option is available in three models, LE, LS and LX. All three models are equipped with TDI diesel engines. The BS IV compliant models comprise two with petrol MPFI engines, GLS and GLX and two diesel engines, LS and LX.
Tata Indigo CS offers a choice of Mint White, Royal Burgundy, Sparkling Gold, Arctic Silver, Carbon Black, Cosmic Blue, Porcelain White, Scarlet Red, Starlight Blue, Sterling Gold and Mica Grey colour options.
Tata Indigo CS Powertrain and Performance
Tata Indigo CS offers options for both petrol and diesel engines. The BS III compliant variants, LE, LS and LX are all fitted with TDI diesel engines which have a maximum displacement capacity of 1,405cc. The BSIV compliant variants have two diesel engine powered models, LS and LX, with a 1396cc Common Rail CR4, 16-valve, DOHC engine which churns out an output of 70 PS @ 4,000 rpm. Maximum torque of 140 Nm is produced at 1,800-3,000 rpm.
The MPFI petrol variants, GLS and GLX, are equipped with 32-bit microprocessor with a displacement capacity of 1,193cc. The petrol powered variants are found to generate a maximum power of 65 PS at 5,000 rpm along with a maximum torque of 100 Nm @ 2,700 rpm.
The diesel variants deliver 18.2 kmpl on the city roads and 21 kmpl on the highways while the diesel variants are claimed to deliver 21 kmpl on the city roads and 25 kmpl on the highways. Tata Indigo CS has been acclaimed as the most fuel efficient sedans available in India till date.
Transmission in case of the sedan comprises five forward gears and one rear reverse gear facility.
Tata Indigo CS Exteriors
The Tata Indigo CS is a compact midsized sedan which seems to be an exciting combination of a hatchback and a sedan. The car, built on the existing Indigo platform, has kept its boot size small to keep the car in the sub-four metres category. The sedan features five doors and accommodates five people. The Indigo CS has been designed with a more exciting exterior when compared to the old version of Tata Indigo. The car has a redesigned tail lamp and exterior mirrors with turn indicators and covered wheel caps. Chrome strips which feature on the mirrors and the hood along with the tainted glasses take up its style quotient. The exteriors of the Indigo CS feature front and rear fog lamps and body colored bumpers. The boot space in the car provides as much space as that in a standard hatchback.
Tata Indigo CS Interiors
Tata Indigo CS has been built to spring a pleasant surprise on its passengers with its well crafted coco brown interiors, tastefully blended with trendy dual-tone beige finish, teamed up with an elegant centre console. Though the sedan appears to be compact, the interiors are roomy and comfortable with ample space and legroom with fabric based seats. The sedan has cabin lamps both in the front and rear seats. The front and rear doors have storage pockets while vanity mirrors feature on the front sun visor. Indigo CS provides for two-way adjustable head rests for both the front and rear seats. Climate control features ensure maximum comfort levels during long drives. The car is equipped with stereo music system with CD/MP3 and AM/FM facility on the LX models. All variants of the Indigo CS come with tachometer, digital clock and an airconditioner.
Tata Indigo CS Safety Features
Tata Indigo CS is equipped with highly effective dual circuit hydraulic brakes. The front tyres come with ventilated disc brakes while the rear tyres come with drum brakes. The rear doors of the sedan come with child safety locks while the seat belt reminders ensure the safety of all the commuters. The same buzz sounds when the driver door is not locked properly. The car also provides for a re-crank protection and central locking system which can be operated through the key. The only disappointment in case of the Indigo CS seems to be the absence of ABS and airbags. Suspension for the car comprises an Antiroll Bar along with McPherson independent struts.
