Tata Aria

The most ambitious MUV launched by Tata Motors Ltd (TML), Tata Aria has been positioned to give tough competition to Toyota Innova, the market leader in the segment. The Aria however has failed to take off as envisaged by TML, mainly due to its steep pricing. The company has currently launched the Aria 4x2, a seven-seater MUV,  armed with the latest 2179cc DiCOR 4-valve DOHC diesel engine,  to pep up the  sales of the brand. TML will also launch the Tata Aria Automatic, priced  lesser than Rs20 lakh. The automatic version will be pitted against the Mahindra Scorpio automatic, Chevrolet Captiva and Ford Endeavour. The on road price of the Aria at Mumbai currently rules at Rs 13,44,000 to Rs17,00,000.

Tata Aria: Choice of Colours

Tata Aria is available in eight colour shades, Castelle Gray, Arctic Silver, Walnut Gold, Sardinia Red, Quartz Black, Pearl White, Surf Blue and Night Shade Black.

The Aria offers the following interior colour options, Black and Plum, Black and Black and Black and Beige.

Tata Aria: Variants

Tata Aria comes in six variants, Tata Aria 4x2 Pure, Tata Aria 4x2 Pleasure, Tata Aria 4x2 Prestige, Tata Aria 4x4 Pleasure, Tata Aria 4x4 Prestige and Tata Aria 4x4 Pride.

Tata Aria: Power and Engine

The Tata Aria is powered by the same 2.2 litre 2179 cc DiCOR 4-valve Diesel engine which powers the Tata Safari. The car is thus endowed with the same acceleration and good cruising speeds. The engine generates maximum power of 140 bhp @4000 rpm.  The ADAPTERRA torque helps produce a peak torque of 320 Nm at 1,700 to 2,700 rpm with maximum traction and the off road capability of an SUV. The turbocharger in the engine, mated to a five-speed manual transmission system, has a unique Variable Turbine Technology which contributes to better power and torque with handling and control of engine air requirements, providing an NVH free atmosphere in the cabin.

Tata Aria: Exterior Appearance

Tata Aria has been judged as one of the best looking crossover in the segment and the second best in the Tata stable, after the Tata Indica Vista. Aria looks beefy and imposing at first glance with large headlamps and upmarket large chrome finished front grille and large bumper in the front. The car has a huge airdam which is flanked by round front fog lamps on either side. Aria appears like the Indica V2 and Indica Vista from the rear side. The car looks very balanced and proportionate with vertical tail lamps which look huge when viewed from the sides. The Aria has an excellent finish and paint quality, good enough to give the Innova a good run for its money.

Tata Aria: Interiors

Tata Aria provides very good comfort levels with ample space to accommodate seven adults across three rows of seating arrangement. Though the third row does not allow ample leg room, the 60:40 split and foldable second seat row can be slid back to provide a better leg space for the third row commuters. Both the second and third rows can be folded to provide larger space for stowage. The Aria allows one to operate the sun roof featured in the roof to allow ample sunlight to pour in. Tata Aria provides for a 6-way adjustable driver seat along with height adjustment and head restraints. The middle seat can be slid while the lumbar support adjustment and height adjustable seat belts enhance the comfort levels. The in-built reverse guide camera in the car provides a view of the rear vehicles and obstacles and facilitates precise parking. Aria has a GPS navigation system which has a facility for searching for restaurants, hospitals, banks and other destinations. Other features of the car include a 2 DIN integrated music system with six speakers to play CDs and MP3s, a USB port, AUX input jack and speed sensing volume controlling device apart from an inbuilt Bluetooth connect and a device which allows one to survey the inside and outside temperature, distance which can be covered with the available fuel, fuel consumption and performance alerts.   Each row of seat is equipped with a separate 12 V power outlet which can be used to charge mobile phones. An amazing feature of the car is the follow me home and approach lights which help one to locate the car in the dark. The lights inside the car can be switched on from outside even when it is locked. Another feature which would thrill people, especially during summer is the chiller in the glove box, in which one could store drinks and chocolates. The glove box has a facility to automatically switch on the light when opened.

Tata Aria: Safety Features

Tata Aria is equipped with disc brakes for all the wheels with ventilated discs at the front end. The car has a reverse guide system with parking sensors and a reverse camera, an Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Distribution, six SRS airbags for the driver and front passengers, and front side and curtain airbags with Traction Control and Cruise Control. The Electronic Stability Program adds to the safety while the anti theft protection features take up the safety levels of the car further.
