Car Glossary India - Index V

Car Jargon - Simplified. Now understand car jargon the way experts do!

It is a common configuration for an internal combustion engine. In a V engine, the pistons are aligned in such a way that they appear to be placed in a V-shape when viewed along the line of the crankshaft.

Benefit

The V shape reduces the overall length, width & height of the engine.
It enhances the torque-generating capacity of high-performance, small displacement four-stroke engines by altering the geometry of the intake by many times, depending on the engine rotation speed.

Benefit

Improves car's performance and fuel economy.
A type of power steering system where electronics vary the amount of power assist provided as a vehicle changes speed. It is also called speed sensitive steering.

Benefit

Makes parking the car easy and also provides better stability at high speeds.
Powered by the intelligence of i-VTEC technology, VCM quickly and seamlessly activates or deactivates the three rear cylinders, depending on the driver's needs. Therefore, you get the best of both worlds: V-6 power when accelerating or climbing, as well as the efficiency of a smaller engine while cruising. The advanced Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology deactivates three of the six cylinders when cruising, for outstanding range and mileage.

Benefit

Enhances engine performance.
This technology allows the engine to be fuel efficient at lower RPMs and when called upon it is able to produce much more power at the expense of fuel economy.

Benefit

Enhances engine performance.
VDIM applies various stability and safety systems such as Anti-Lock brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Traction Control (TRC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Electric Power Steering (EPS) to varying degrees. This achieves an optimum level of performance that is not found if each application works independently.

Benefit

All on-board safety systems are integrated and co-ordinated by a single system. This ensures better safety.
Systems designed to improve a vehicle’s handling, particularly at those times when the driver might lose control of the vehicle.

Benefit

Automatically monitors the car’s speed and stability at high speeds.
Vehicle Stability Assist (or Electronic Stability Control in generic terms) is designed to improve a vehicle’s handling particularly at those times when the driver might lose control of the vehicle. Numerous international studies have confirmed the effectiveness of ESC in helping the driver maintain control of the car, thereby helping save lives and reducing the severity of crashes.

Benefit

Automatically monitors the car’s speed and stability at high speeds.
