Change the oil and oil filter regularly. The owner's manual of your car will have details about exactly how often you should do this, however, the thumb rule is that it is better to change them every 3,000 to 4,000 miles (4800 to 6400 kms).
Check the various fluids in your car on a regular basis. Fluids pertain mainly to parts like the brake, power steering, transmission, transaxle, windshield washer, and antifreeze. The owner’s manual tells you in detail how to check these or easier still just take them to the dealer showroom during your free time and watch while they service it.
The required amount of air pressure in tyres needs to be strictly maintained if your car is to get the right mileage and pick-up. Check the air pressure level in your car tyres at least once a month or every time you drive into a petrol bunk to refuel.
If you notice any leaks, get them checked immediately. Different systems, in a modern car, rely on specialist liquids or lubricants to run properly, so it's better to be safe than sorry and take them to a professional service station that deals with high-end cars.
Ensure that all the lights of your car - headlights, turn signals, brake lights, and taillights - are in a proper working condition.
Periodically replace the windshield wiper blades. If your wiper blades are cracked or torn, or if they begin to streak, replace them.
Inspect the engine belts. They should not have cracks or missing segments.
Your car’s air filter should always be clean, not clogged or damaged.
Get your car serviced by an authorized dealer. Always use genuine parts.
Drive at a moderate speed to maximize fuel efficiency.
Avoid accelerating and braking abruptly.
Shut the engine whenever you expect to wait.
Watch for warning lights, note performance changes, and listen to your car - any changes or unusual noises are worth having checked before a more serious fault develops.
