Overview

Tata Motors has launched the new generation Indica eV2 with a Common Rail CR4 engine and an MPFI petrol engine that complies with the new BSIV norms. Undoubtedly, the new eV2 is the most fuel efficient car in India. With a more efficient and powerful engine and a super light body, the new Indica eV2 is more responsive and fun to drive. The new Tata Indica eV2 has been launched in ten variants with three fuel types. The petrol engine eV2 Xeta has four variants including the GL, GLE, GLS, GLX. The diesel Indica eV2 is also available in four variants including L, LE, LS, and LX. The Indica eV2 is also available in LPG option, variants for which include GLE and GLS.

The new Indica eV2 comes with plenty of new features that are usually available on high end hatchbacks only. But with this car, you can enjoy the luxury of a sedan in a hatchback, thanks to its top-of-the range comfort and convenience features.

Colour choices for the new Indica eV2 include: Mint White, Arctic Silver, Apple Green, Burgundy Royal and Neo Orange.

Powertrain & Performance

Tata Motors has launched the Indica eV2 in diesel, petrol and LPG engine options, but the common thing among all of them is a very superior fuel economy. While the 1.4 litre Common Rail engine produces a peak power of 69bhp @ 4000rpm, the 1.2 litre MPFI petrol engine produces a top performance of 64.4bhp @ 5000rpm. The bi-fuel (MPFI+LPG) engine produces a peak power of 64.4bhp @ 5000rpm in petrol mode and 60.9bhp @ 5000rpm in LPG mode. All the variants of the Tata Indica eV2 feature 5-speed manual transmission.

The Tata Indica eV2 features SMART EMS (Engine Management System) CHIP that involves perfectly calibrating every minute engine component to optimize functionality - Right from valve timing to compression ratios to pressure volume ratios, it flawlessly synchronizes every engine function to deliver this mileage.

For the suspension, Tata Motors has brought in front independent wishbone with McPherson strut at the front and independent, semi trailing arm with coil spring mounted on hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear of the new Indica eV2. With suspension like that, the Indica is sure to make your ride a smooth and a comfortable one.

As of now Tata Motors has not revealed the fuel economy of the Indica eV2 except that of the diesel variants. The diesel variant of the Indica eV2 returns an extraordinary fuel economy of 25kmpl.

Build & Styling

New Tata Indica eV2 Car - Interior

Except a few cosmetic changes, the design and styling of the new Indica eV2 remains primarily similar to the Indica V2. With a very subtle C-pillar, the new Indica eV2 sports a smiling grille that is garnished with chrome and sports-shaped headlamps. Some styling elements such as, motorized clear lens headlamps and clear lens side indicator lamps, have been added as standard on all the variants of the Tata Indica eV2.

Designed for the Indian roads, the Indica eV2 is just the car for people trying to get a good deal with a small budget. The top variants of the car get body colored bumpers, body colored rear view mirrors, and alloy wheels.

There are a lot of other important features that are a first time in its class. The Auto-Drive Assist featured in the Indica eV2 ensures that while climbing a gradient the engine will not stall even if the foot is completely taken off the clutch, thus enabling the driver to easily shift his foot to the accelerator. Another first in its class in the eV2 is the Clutch-To-Start feature that will ensure that one cannot crank the engine unless the clutch is fully engaged; hence there is no risk of re-crank if engine is on.

Interiors of the car are fairly comfortable and are done in elegant shadow beige colour. In the top end variant, you get a wood finish centre console and host of other features like power windows, keyless entry, Bluetooth enabled music system and USB port, 4 spoke collapsible steering wheel, tachometer, rear parcel shelf, 60:40 rear seating, and front and rear fog lamps.

When it comes to safety, the Tata Indica eV2 is a clear winner. The Tata hatchback features 3point ELR seatbelts, collapsible steering, high mounted stop lamps, and child safety lock on rear doors as standard. On the top end variants, you get other safety features like remote central locking, and rear and front fog lamps.
