Overview

The Cayman along with the Boxster are the most affordable models from Porsche. It is available in two variants: Base and S. This two-seater boasts of slipstream styling, quick acceleration, and lavish cabin comfort. It also features an optional Porsche Active Suspension Management system that allows continuous variable damping to adjust the car's drive according to road conditions and driver preferences.

Powertrain & Performance

The Cayman has a mid-mounted six-cylinder boxer engine featuring VarioCam Plus technology, which creates two engines out of one, switching seamlessly between them as driver inputs change. Ideally positioned directly behind the driver, this 'flat-six' engine provides an exceptionally low centre of gravity. The variable valve system with lower engine speed generates additional torque along with other beneficiary features like greater top-end power, better fuel economy, and lower exhaust-emissions.

The Porsche Cayman Base variant comes with a 2.7-litre H6 boxer engine that delivers 245 bhp. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on the Base variant and a 6-speed manual transmission is available as an option. The Cayman S variant is powered by a 3.4-litre H6 boxer engine that generates 295 bhp. The S variant is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. Both variants are available with the option of a five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. Porsche's Tiptronic S five-speed automatic comes with a manual-shift provision.

Build & Styling

New Porsche Cayman Car - Interior

The dazzling exterior is sleek and classy. The bulging rear bumper emphasizes the roof's teardrop shape. The large oval-shaped headlights pre-define a curvaceous front fascia. The Base variant runs on 17-inch wheels and the S variant on 18-inch specially designed 5-spoke wheels. The Base variant comes with the option of a range of 18-inch and 19-inch wheels. All wheels come standard with anti-theft protection.

The instrument panel in the Base variant have black faces, while those in the S variant are white. The interior layout for both variants is similar with a steep dashboard, a three-spoke steering wheel, and well-bolstered comfortable seats. Genuine leather trimmings for the steering wheel, gear lever, handbrake lever, and door handle facings are standard. One of the unique features offered due to its mid-engine layout is that it has two trunks: one under the hood and one under the rear hatch. The combined space equals 14.5 cubic feet in the Cayman and 14.1 cubic feet in the Cayman S.

Like all other Porsche models, the Cayman also ensures safety. Some of the standard safety features found on-board the Cayman includes all-disc anti-lock brakes, an electronic stability system, dual front airbags, side-impact airbags, and side curtain airbags. The Porsche Stability Management system is also standard on both variants. Ceramic composite brakes that bring the car to a stand-still during crisis circumstances are available as an option for the S variant.
