The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured by Mercedes-Benz division of the DaimlerChrysler. The M-Class was launched in the U.S. in 1997, but has been brought to India a good ten years later.
In the U.S. and other countries, the M-Class is available in a choice of four models: ML320 CDI, ML350, ML550, and ML63 AMG. However, in India, it is available only in two models: ML320 CDI and ML350. Both are offered in a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) version and a 5-seater configuration.
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is backed by a new vehicle limited warranty of 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.
The ML320 CDI is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine, which produces a maximum power of 221 bhp @ 4,000 rpm and 540 Nm of torque @ 1,600 - 2,800 rpm. The ML350 derives power from a 3.5-liter V-6 diesel engine, which churns out 268 bhp @ 5,000 rpm and 350 Nm @ 2,400 - 5,000 rpm. Both the engines are linked to a standard 7-speed G-Tronic automatic transmission. The M-Class is maneuvered by a power rack-and-pinion steering, which offers nimble and direct responses.
The M-Class rides on an independent front suspension that includes double wishbone with high-strength forged aluminum-alloy upper arms, cast-iron lower arms, and a stabilizer bar as well. The independent 4-arm multilink rear suspension consists of high-strength forged aluminum-alloy upper arms and a stabilizer bar. This modern suspension system is tuned to absorb the impact of bumps and potholes and render a smooth ride.
The M-Class is equipped with standard dual-circuit power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, which supply forceful stopping power to all four wheels, thereby bringing it to an immediate and jerk-free halt. It also comes standard with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), which prevents locking up of wheels during hard braking and emergency maneuvers.
With a minimum turning radius of 5.8 metres and a ground clearance of 223 mm, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a pleasure to drive.

The M-Class looks like a perfect mix of brawn and style. It measures 4,780 mm in length and rides on a wheelbase of 2,915 mm. Its front fascia is adorned by a prominent body-colour bumper, a silver grille with chrome ribs, distinct halogen headlamps, and fog lamps. It also comes standard with selectable light-sensing headlamps and programmable daytime running lamps with auto-on override in darkness.
At the rear, the M-Class has dual square polished stainless-steel exhaust tips and a single red rear fog lamp integrated into the left tail-lamp. Electrically-adjustable outside mirrors come standard on the car. It is also available with the option of rain-sensing wipers with heated nozzles, lines and reservoir, and tinted glass on windows.
The M-Class also boasts of a hydraulically assisted tailgate closing feature. It features black protective-coated roof rails with a roof load capacity of 100 kilograms. A power tilt/sliding tinted-glass sunroof with sunshade can be fitted as an option. It wears standard 17-inch alloy wheels and rolls on 235/65 R17 tyres.
As for interiors, the M-Class comes with plush, roomy, and well-appointed interiors that offer seating for a maximum of five persons. The M-Class comes standard with leather seats, a height adjustable driver's seat, a tiltable steering column, and leather-wrapped steering and gear shift knob. It offers the convenience of an air conditioner, a climate control, power windows, power door locks, a power steering, and cup holders. It also comes equipped with cruise control. For entertainment while driving, the M-Class comes with an AM/FM radio and a CD player.
It also comes loaded with numerous safety features to ensure the protection of occupants. It comes standard with airbags, child safety door locks, front and rear seatbelts, central locking, an engine immobilizer, and ABS. A remote keyless entry and an anti-theft alarm system are standard on the ML320 CDI and optional on the ML350.
