Overview

The Ford Figo is based on the Ford Global B platform and gets its name from the colloquial Italian expression Figo which is similar to the colloquial English expression 'cool'. On the whole, the Figo is as good as any other small car. However, the front end of this subcompact hatchback is sleek and looks very stylish and attractive. Though small, the four-metre length of the Figo ensures a tall, purposeful look.

The ride quality of the Ford Figo is quite exceptional both at the front and rear. The Indian roads which have quite a few speed breakers will easily be taken by the Figo in its stride without sending a rude message to the driver's or passengers' back.

The Figo leverages Ford's small-car platform architecture with solid proportions. It shares essential technology with the Ford Fiesta, already familiar to Indian drivers. The Ford Figo which was unveiled in Delhi in September, 2009 will be built in Chennai for the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions.

Powertrain & Performance

In India, the Ford Figo comes in 8 variants. The petrol variants will be powered by 1.2 Duratec engines while the diesel variants will be powered by 1.4 Duratorq engines. The petrol engine with SEFI technology can churn out a power of 70 bhp at 6,250 rpm and a torque of 102 Nm at 4000 rpm. The common rail diesel engine will be able to stir up a power of 68 bhp at 4,000 rpm and a torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both engines are coupled by a 5-speed automatic gearbox for smooth movement of the car. The engine helps the Figo deliver great performance in both city and highway road conditions. The Ford Figo has fine engines at a killer price which also returns with goof fuel economy figures.
