Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up Review

Overview:
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) introduced the new Bolero Pik-Up in 2003. The model comes with a powerful and fuel efficient Mahindra DI diesel engine with a long life. The advantages of this model are easy maintenance and low cost of operation. An all new power steering system enables easy manoeuvring. The pick-up truck comes with the elegant styling of the Bolero MUV and delivers good performance.

Powertrain and Performance:
The Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up comes in two choices - Flat Bed (FB) and Flat Bed Power Steering (FB PS). Both the variants are available in BS2 and BS3 emissions. A 62 bhp 2.5-litre turbocharged direct injection diesel producing a peak torque of 180 Nm is standard in Bolero Pik- Up. The engine is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.

Front and rear suspensions are rigid and come with hydraulic double acting telescopic shock absorbers that deliver decent ride quality. The front suspension is independent and the rear suspension is composed of leaf springs. The pick-up offers good fuel economy - 12 km/l within city limits and 14 km/l on highways.

Build and Styling:
The front styling of the Bolero Pik-Up is the same as that of the Bolero - aggressive body coloured bumpers, square headlamps and waterfall front grille with a bold Mahindra logo. The traditional Bolero headlights carry a chrome finish frame and tri coloured taillights adorn the rear. The pick-up truck rides on 15" steel wheels with radial tyres.

On the inside, the driver's door carries a large door handle. Instrument gauges such as the tachometer and speedometer are mounted deep inside the bezels. There's provision to have a music system and AC fitted. The seating cabin is spacious and well ventilated. Seats are of good quality fabric and interior comfort is good for long drives.

The FB PS variant is the latest addition to the Bolero Pik-Up. It comes with power steering. Power steering is a much needed feature on utility vehicles to enable easy handling especially when the load being carried is a lot.

In addition to power steering, one of the best features of the Bolero Pik-Up is its large flat bed cargo box that can open on all sides. This makes loading it easier.

Safety is enhanced with LCRV enabled safety brakes that adjust braking pressure as per the load in the Pik-Up to ensure stability. Hydraulic double acting shock absorbers work to protect the vehicle's suspension system on bumpy roads and deliver decent ride quality.
