Hyundai Sonata Transform
The flagship model of Hyundai India, the Sonata Transform sedan was launched in India in the D Segment, to replace the Sonata Embera. The sedan has been designed to be a chauffer driven with luxurious back seats. Though of a Korean make, the Sonata Transform looks like a European car, especially due to the chunky rear end, with several new features and upgrades to the Embera in terms of style and comfort. The car, known for strengthening the presence of Hyundai in the Indian car market, has been admired for its exquisite looks, alluringly stylish exteriors and very convenient, well appointed and roomy interiors. The premium sedan has been pitted against the Honda Accord and Volkswagen Jetta and priced at Rs14.83 to Rs17.37 lakhs.

Hyundai Sonata Transform: Engine/ Powertrain and Mileage/Fuel Efficiency
The Sonata Transform offers a choice of either a diesel or petrol fired versions, with two variants, a 2.4 VTVT petrol engine and a 2.0 CRDi diesel engine. The petrol version is powered by a 2.4 litre MPFI Theta engine which produces 173 bhp @6000 rpm. Peak Torque of 23.8 Kgm is produced at 4000 rpm.
The diesel variant is a 4-cylinder 2.0 litre Common Rail Engine with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) which produces a peak power of 150 bhp @ 850 rpm. Maximum Torque of 2.1 Kgm is produced at 2000 rpm. The engine is mated either to a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed H Matic automatic transmission system, which allows one to shift from automatic to manual sports mode as and when required.
Hyundai Sonata Transform: Exteriors
Hyundai has incorporated notable changes in the Embera to bring forth the Sonata Transform, giving it a sporty look. The Transform is designed with larger radiator grille, crafted with chrome bars, giving it an American feel. The car has chrome-tipped dual exhausts and a new set of alloy wheels while the projector type lamps come as standard. The Transform has larger and stylish headlamps with an advanced auto switch off. The outside rear view mirrors are electrically retractable with de-foggers. The heating facility used in the mirrors keeps them free of mist. The body-coloured parking sensors feature both in the front and rear ends. The car has a chunky rear end with body coloured bumpers which clearly takes it out of the under-four-meter category.

Hyundai Sonata Transform has been built with a solid body and conferred with sophisticated interiors with dual tone shades of beige and grey and luxurious leather seats. The centre console looks impressive with a woodgrain dashboard and chrome inlays and a very bulky glove box. The steering wheel, covered with luxurious leather, has tilt/telescopic function. The look is enhanced with blue LED illuminated dashboard and padded door panels. The car ensures the comfort levels of the driver with an 8-way power adjustable drivers’ seat with dual height adjustment, backrest inclination and lumbar support. The rear seats of the car are wide and comfortable and with very good backrests and height adjustable seatbelts, ensuring an enjoyable ride. Thought the rear seats don’t have AC vents, they have an access to the music system controls. The central arm rest has cup holders, allowing one to travel in luxury. The 60:40 split rear seats adds to the boots space of 500 litres. The space provided in the car ensures high comfort levels even for tall commuters.
Hyundai Sonata Transform: Comfort and Safety Features
The Hyundai Sonata Transform has an automatic dual-zone automatic temperature control system. The car has a 6-speaker CD/MP3 player with USB and AUX port which allows one to plug in portable devices and an auxiliary port.
An advanced feature in the Sonata Transform is the electronically controlled Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, dual front airbags with passenger airbag off switch, impact sensing door unlock and a central door locking system. The customer has an option to go for front side airbags and curtain airbags if he so wishes.
