The Hyundai Santro was an instant success when launched in India, though the radical styling has not pleased all. Promoted by the popular Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, the small car has gone through a series of improvements and facelifts to customize it according to the taste of the local population. The small car has been pitted against the Maruti Suzuki Zen, Suzuki Wagon R and Maruti Zen Estilo.  In 2003, Hyundai effected a few changes and replaced the second generation Altos Prime with the Santro Xing, which has enjoyed as much popularity in the Indian markets. The small car carries a price tag starting from Rs2,84,396.

Hyundai Santro Xing: Colours and Variants

The Hyundai Santro Xing is available in a range of colours including Crystal White, Sleek Silver, Silky Beige, Dark Grey, Black Diamond and Berry Red shades in India.

Hyundai Santro Xing comes in six variants, XK Non AC, XK, XL, XO and AT, priced at Rs4 lakh and above.

Hyundai Santro Xing: Power/ Engine and Mileage/Fuel Efficiency

Hyundai Santro Xing is equipped with a technologically sophisticated 1086 cc in-line four-cylinder Epsilon 1.1 litre petrol engine which generates an output of 63 bhp @ 5500 rpm. Maximum torque of 96 Nm is generated at 4,000 rpm.  The Epsilon Engine has been built with the eRLX technology which contributes to better performance and fuel efficiency. The fuel efficiency is further enhanced due to the low-end torque and good throttle responses. The engine is paired with a standard 5-speed manual transmission system with overdrive, making the engine very quick and responsive. The Santro Xing is found to contribute to a mileage of 16-18 kmph on the city roads and about 20-23 kmph on the highways.

Hyundai Santro Xing:  Exteriors

Though the Hyundai Santro Xing has not been designed in any extraordinary fashion, it has been found good enough to attract the attention of car enthusiasts. The car features rectangular headlamps and special parallel body coloured radiator grille with a chrome Hyundai logo. The Xing wears black conventional ORVMs and self coloured door handles and waistline moulding. The rear design of the small car has vertically stacked tail lamps, clusters, wide rear windshield, body coloured bumper and rear spoiler in the top-end variant.

Hyundai Santro Xing: Interiors

The dual tone interiors and dual tone seats of the new Xing gives a luxurious feel to the occupants. The Santro Xing has modern dashboard components and comfortably accommodates five passengers. The black dashboard comes with chrome finish at the AC vents and centre dash. The instruments panel of the car has three round dials which comprise trip meter, low fuel warning lamp and other features. Comfort features of the car include an air conditioner, 1 DIN audio, heater, internally adjustable ORVMS, front power window, intermittent front wiper and washer, rear parcel tray, front and rear speaker grille, front map lamp and others. The car also has a remote fuel lid opener and tail gate release.

Hyundai Santro Xing: Safety Features

The Santro Xing has very good safety features apart from the air bags. The car has child safety rear door locks, dual side impact beams and front and rear seat belts, day and night inside rear view mirror, central locking, self locking door, immobilizer and front ventilated disc brakes amongst others. Hyundai has introduced a very sophisticated suspension system in the new Santro Xing, by blending Mcpherson strut with stabilizer bar layout in the front portion and the beam axle with 3-link offset coil spring and hydraulic damper in the rear portion. The superior suspension system contributes to good handling, giving the car a far superior grip on the road. The wide 155/70R13 radial tyres allow the driver to surge ahead with better confidence on curvy roads.

Hyundai Santro Xing: Feedback

Most of the owners of the small car have been very pleased with the comfort and safety levels, seating and smooth driving experience.  The car is easy to drive and gives a good mileage. The smooth engine gives a good pickup and contributes to an excellent road grip. The good looking car commands a good resale value.
