Hyundai i20
The Hyundai i20 has been one of the most successful launches of Hyundai Motors India Ltd. The premium compact car, launched to replace the Getz model in the worldwide markets, was one of the cars which helped the company to be back with a bang and to change its fortunes. Named amongst the “Top Five Safest Cars for 2009” by Euro NCAP, The Hyundai i20 earned a five star rating out of six stars from the agency. The premium hatchback has been endowed with breathtaking looks and very elegant exteriors and interiors, targeted at those to seek style, high quality and safety. The hatchback is priced at Rs4.51 to Rs7.48 lakhs.
Hyundai i20 - Choice of Colours and Variants
Hyundai i20 offers choices of Black Diamond, Dark Gray Metallic, Black, Sleek Silver, Berry Red, Silky Beige, Silky Silver and Sparkle Blue shades.
The i20 offers seven BS IV compliant petrol variants which include Era, Magna, Sportz, Sportz Option, Asta, Asta Option with Sunroof and Asta AT.
The diesel variants of the i20 include The Asta (o) CRDi, Asta 1.4 CRDi, Era, Magna 1.4 CRDi, Sportz, Sportz Option and 1.4 Asta CRDi with AVN.
Hyundai i20 Engine/Power and Mileage/Fuel Efficiency
The Hyundai i20 comes with both petrol and diesel engines. The i20 is the first hatchback in the Indian auto space with 6-speed manual transmission. The car has three engine options, 1.4 litre, 1396 cc Gamma AT Petrol, 1.2 Lt 1196 cc Kappa PL Petrol and 1.4 CRDi Diesel engines.
The 1.4 litre CRDI engine delivers an impressive 90 bhp @ 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.9 kgm @4200 rpm. The engine can accelerate from 0-100 km in 15.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 164 kmph.
The 1.2 Lt Kappa engine with five-speed manual transmission with a power of 80 BHP @5200 rpm with a maximum torque of 11.4 kgm @4000 rpm. This engine can accelerate from 0 to 100 km in 15.2 seconds, achieving a top speed of 154 kmph.
The 1.4 Lt Gamma engine produces 100 BHP and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The version generates a maximum torque of 22.4 kgm @1750-2750 rpm. This engine can sprint from 0-100 km in 13.2 just seconds achieving a top speed of 166 kmph.
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has certified that the 1.2 Kappa petrol version of the i20 is capable of delivering a mileage of 18.15 kmpl while the diesel variant (1.4 CRDi) can deliver a very high mileage of 21.93 kmpl. Both the petrol and diesel variants comply with the recent BS IV emission norms.
Hyundai i20 Exteriors
Hyundai i20 is very pleasing on the eyes with its neat lines, striking rear clusters and self coloured radiator. The hatchback has a sleek structure and robust exteriors. The i20 has been endowed with amazingly eye catching features which include large headlamps and sporty multi reflector round fog lamps, steeply raked wind screen and a low slung distinctive chrome finish grille with the logo of the company. The rear portion of the i20 has been designed to accommodate more stowage. The car has been designed with a wider air dam to add to the style while giving it a better cooling effect. The sunroof option adds to the elegance of the already breathtaking car. The i20 features alloy wheels and body coloured outside mirrors with indicators along with body coloured door handles.
Hyundai i20 Interiors
Hyundai i20 has a seating capacity to accommodate five people. The premium hatchback is very comfortable with roomy and spacious interiors. The classy and elegant interiors allows for generous headroom and legroom both the front and rear seats, making it apt for a joyous outing or even for long journeys. The comfort features of the car include air conditioner with heater, cloth seat upholstery, AC vents with shut off options, rear AC cooling ducts and an option for power windows dual tone beige interiors, MP3 music system, a cooled glove box and a multi-information display which includes trip distance, calendar, clock, engine running time, temperature and audio display and tachometer. The car has a headrest adjustment features which ensures comfortable driving while the bench folding rear seat with 60-40 split rear seat with flat folding option allows ample space for stowage. The feature is very useful while going for outings. Features like tilt and telescopic steering, luggage lamp, power window switches, height adjustable rear headrests and rear wiper add to joyous experience of riding the i20.
Hyundai i20 Safety Features
The i20 is a new generation car with high safety features. The car has featured amongst the list of “Top Five Safest Cars for 2009” by Euro NCAP, bagging five out of six stars from the agency. The car has a belt reminder and electronic stability programme with safety assist features. The features reduce the risk of skidding when the brake is applied. Other safety features of the car include an ABS, seat belt with pre-tensioner, dual airbags for the driver and front passengers and auto unlocking doors. The Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) and suspension systems ensure maximum comfort and safety while driving.
