Fiat Palio Stile Review

Overview:
The Fiat Palio Stile comes with sound design credentials conceived on the drawing boards of renowned Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was voted "Designer of the Century" by motoring journalists. Fiat managed to come up with a winner, the Palio, its small car that is a bestseller in many Latin American countries. The zippy hatchback Palio suffered a serious setback with sales in India dipping to dismal levels due to poor service and a lack of spare parts.

Tata Motors Ltd. now manages the marketing of Fiat cars, a move that is expected to give a fillip to sagging sales in one of the fastest growing automobile markets in the world. The new Fiat Palio Stile incorporates a modified exhaust system to improve mileage, a temperature regulator for air-conditioning and a new air dam on the front fascia.

The Palio Stile comes with some cosmetic changes all over. Petrol engines available on the Stile are 1.1-litre and 1.6-litre in capacity. The available diesel engine is a 1.3-litre turbocharged unit with new multijet technology. Stile is available in four petrol variants the SL, SLE, SLX, Sports and three diesel variants SD, SDE, and SDX. The Stile Sports is driven by the potent 1.6L petrol engine and the other petrol variants come with the 1.1L 'FIRE' engine.

Powertrain and Performance:
The Palio Stile comes with three engine options: 1.1L 4-cylinder SOHC Petrol, 1.6L 4-cylinder DOHC Petrol, and 1.3L turbocharged multijet Diesel. The variants SL, SLE and SLX derive power from the 1.1L petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 56 bhp@5250 rpm and peak torque of 92 Nm@2750 rpm. It accelerates a 0-100 kilometer in 21 seconds.

The Palio 1.6 Stile Sport is powered by the 1.6L petrol engine that generates 99 bhp@ 5500 rpm and peak torque of 137 Nm@4250 rpm.

Both the 1.1L and the 1.6L petrol engines are Fully Integrated Robotised Engines (FIRE) type and use electronic multi-point fuel injection technology controlled by a 32-bit microprocessor. The 1.3L diesel engine that comes with a turbocharger and an electronically-controlled EGR system that reduces the exhaust emissions from the car by diluting the air fuel mixture in the engine with some exhaust gas that does not burn.

A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive on 4th and 5th gear is standard across variants. Shifting is precise and effortless. The 1.1L engine is not a sprinter but has good pickup, the 1.6L Sports is powerful and makes driving more fun both in city and highways. The 1.3L offers an impressive mileage and a powerful and zippy drive. All the variants get McPherson Struts in front and torsion axle with coil springs at the rear.

The Stile is stable at all speeds without any drama. Braking is sure footed with ventilated discs in front while in the rear, they have self-adjusting drum brakes. All the variants get tubeless tyres ensuring good traction and road manners.

Build and Styling:
The Palio Stile rolled out with a few cosmetic changes; the Stile doesn't look too different from the earlier Palio. It comes with a redesigned headlamp, bumper and the taillamp. The protruded hatchback of the Palio has been reworked, now the Stile looks far better. The rear bumper gets a groove which looks like air dams, and the exhaust outlet is placed on the left side of the car.

The Stile has received many changes amongst which the main attraction is its headlights. The beige and dark brown interiors look sporty. The silver coloured centre console is the highlight in the cabin but the speedometer dial colour is not impressive. Interiors of all the four variants exude warmth with dual-tone dashboard in Beige and Brown, fabric-lined seats and door trim with fabric inserts.

To increase the stowage space, all the variants come with double-foldable rear seat and a rear parcel shelf. The looks of the 1.6 Sport are further enhanced by leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear-knob, sporty metallic pedals and Silver-coloured inner door handles. All the variants come with internally adjustable outside rear view mirrors. The boot, with a capacity of 260 to 950 litres, allowing you carry all that you need for your picnic.

All the four trims come standard with myriad safety features such as side impact beams, energy absorbing collapsible steering wheel, front structure with controlled deformation and reinforced struts, anti-submarine seats and child lock on rear doors. To make the journey safer, all Palio Stiles come equipped with engine immobiliser, tubeless tyres, remote head lamp level adjustment, high-mounted stop lamp, double crank prevention system, reverse gear lock, fire prevention system and height-adjustable front head restraints.
