JLR deal comes as major boost to West Midlands Regions

Tata’s deal with Ford that acquired its iconic luxury brands-Jaguar and Land Rover for $3.2 billion was major boost for the entire West Midlands region.

Mick Laverty, Chief Executive at regional development agency Advantage West Midlands, said the JLR deal clinched by Tata Motors was a tremendous boost for the entire West Midlands region.


The news of Tata motors’ achievement in acquiring these brands is not only encouraging and supporting for the workforce and their families, but it also means that   high-end Jaguar and Land Rover brands which have been synonymous with the region will continue to be promoted on the world stage, he added.

Over the past few months, Tata have made constant efforts and worked diligently to clinch this deal and to establish the precise take-over details of the company they are buying - and Advantage West Midlands has left them in no doubt about the world-class region they are buying in to.

He assured that “we will continue to support and build strong working relationship with Tata to help them to reach their goals and fulfill their ambitions”. The West Midlands is the home of the UK automotive industry and we are also a world beater in terms of research and development as well as design.

The number of companies setting up in the West Midlands has almost doubled in the last two years and it also led to creation of more than 1,300 jobs by 14 companies since 2006.  At present, there are more than 30 Indian owned business in the region including State Bank of India,  ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra and Aditya Birla.

It may be recalled here that realizing the increasing desires and abilities of the Indian business to expand globally, the British Midlands set up their respective offices in India to attract Indian investment into the region about five years ago.

The role of Advantage West Midlands which is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England is to provide leadership and action to create more, better jobs and an improved quality of life for all in the West Midlands.
