Toyota plans to turn India into Small Car Specialist

31 January, 2008
Toyota, the leading Japanese car maker, has huge plans for India. It now plans to double its investment and turn India into its central export hub for its small cars. The plan is set with the Government so that it also helps India become a small-car specialist in the car world. The numbers of units produced may see an increase from the current 55,000 to 6 Lakh by 2015.

Katsuaki Watanabe, President of Toyota, said that the plans have already been proposed and appreciated by the Prime Minister of India and the Minister for Commerce and Industry in India. However, the plan will be finalized in few months and, at present the company is concentrating on expanding the manufacturing unit near Bangalore.

Toyota’s small car project with its Indian partner Kirloskar is in its final stages and Toyota is currently on the lookout for local vendors who will, along with bringing up sale numbers, also provide international-standard service to the cars sold.
