Volkswagen to launch Formula Racing Cars in India

30 July, 2008
The Volkswagen is all set to roll out Formula car racing series in India. The company is trying all possible means to get a grip of the Indian car market.

The plan is now in the budding stage. It will be the first car company to introduce racing cars in the Indian market that has been dominated by two tyre companies, the JK Tyres and MRF. However, the company would launch the series in partnership with JK Tyres, which has the support of Federation of Motor Sport Clubs in India (FMSCI).

The head of Racing and Driver Relations for Volkswagen, Priya Thangaveloo, revealed at the Kari Motor Speedway, that the proposed series could involve cars of 145 bhp with Dalara chassis.

She also added that the cars would be very similar to what Ashwin Sundar (VW's brand ambassador) drives in the Formula ADAC series in Germany.

Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motor Sports, JK Tyres said, “We had six other offers, but we chose Volkswagen as our aim was to give them a taste of the advanced technology at an affordable cost.”

The company would be launching the Formula racing car series outside Germany for the first time. Hope this venture proves to be successful and further help the organization to gain more customers in India.
