General Motors is planning to set up an engine and transmission plant in Maharashtra. This plant will help the company to move one step ahead in the Indian auto market.

The company has signed an agreement with the government in this regard. The facility will be located at the Talegaon, where the second vehicle unit will be operational very soon. When asked about the plant details like investment and production capacity, the company official refused to disclose any information related to the plant.

The new car plant will also be used for the small car production. The company aims to double its market share in India. According to a survey report, by 2010 the annual passenger vehicle sales in India are forecast to increase by more than 2 million units, out of which two-third of the share will be taken by the small cars.
