Maruti has one lakh K-Series engined cars on roads

29 July, 2009
India's number one car maker Maruti Suzuki rolled out over one lakh units of K-series engine. The company started manufacturing the K-series engines ten months ago. This engine is currently fitted in the A-Star and the Ritz.

Maruti Suzuki is considering to induct the K-series engines in other existing as well as new models. The K-series engines use fuel-efficient technology.

The company makes Bharat Stage-III, Bharat Stage-IV and Euro-V emission norms compliant K-series engines. Maruti Suzuki also manufactures two different petrol engines, 1 litre for the A-Star and 1.2 litre for the Ritz, from the fully integrated engine manufacturing facility, located at its Gurgaon plant.

According to the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the A-Star delivers a decent mileage of 19.6 km/l, while the Maruti Suzuki Ritz runs 17.7 km for every litre of petrol.

Maruti Suzuki has so far exported over 50,000 units of Euro-V compliant A-Star, sold as Suzuki Alto in Europe. It also exports the A-Star to another Japanese car maker Nissan under a contract manufacturing agreement with Suzuki. Nissan sells the car in Europe as the Pixo.

The Gurgaon facility that makes the KB-series engine has a production capacity of 2.4 lakh units per annum.
