Maruti Suzuki to Launch MUV in Oct

The launch spree from Maruti Suzuki India is likely to continue for the entire year. Apparently, the company now plans to launch a new multi-utility vehicle (MUV) by October this year.

The new MUV which will be built on the Versa platform is expected to strengthen the company's portfolio in the van segment. Code named as O2, the car is in advanced stage of design and would be produced at Maruti plant near New Delhi.

The details are kept under wraps and the Maruti does not want to even mention the price segment they are aiming at. However, the company sources said that announcement will be made at an appropriate time.

The new car is expected to bolster the manufacturer's position as the market leader. According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturer (SIAM) the combined people and luggage carrier segment has grown to 10,078 units in April 2009 from the earlier 8.816 units recorded in April 2008.

The new car will be the third major launch for this year after the A-star and Ritz hatchbacks, which was aimed at the urban markets.
