Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), a joint venture between Japan's Toyota Motor and Pune-based Kirloskar Group will make its entry in India to the compact car segment. Toyota is working currently on introducing four compact car models for the Indian market. The cars are likely to hit the Indian roads by next two to three years.

These four models will be fitted with a 1.1 litre and 1.3 litre engines. Hatchbacks and sedans are also likely to be rolled out with similar engine capacity. The company’s first new car model is expected to be a petrol sedan with a 1.3 litre engine. These cars will be competing with Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Fiesta and Hyundai Verna.

The launch of theses cars will coincide with the start of commercial production at its second plant that is located adjacent to the current plant in Bidadi near Bangalore. The company is investing Rs 1,400 crore at its new plant which is expected to produce 100,000 vehicles a year. Toyota's popular premium sedan, the Corolla diesel will be manufactured at the new car plant.
