The anticipation is over. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. made a country-wide launch of the Swift Sedan christened Dzire at noon today. The Dzire project was started in 2005 as an advanced version of the Swift
hatchback.
Available in three petrol variants and two diesel variants, it will carry the same ‘g’ series engine as the Swift. The Dzire platform will be longer than the Swift 3.6 metre, but shorter than the 4 metre length required to qualify for a compact car tag. The petrol version will be powered by 1.3-litre engine and the diesel version will get a 1.3-litre Multijet common rail diesel engine used by Fiat.
The car will also feature a front ABS (anti-lock braking system) and an auto temperature control along with an engine immobilizer to safe guard the vehicle against theft. The high-end variant will come with a DIN stereo and a separate set of
alloy wheels.
The base model will carry a price tag starting from Rs 4.7 Lakh and the high-end model will be tagged at Rs 6 Lakh. Dzire will be competing against players like the
Hyundai Accent,
Ford Ikon, Chevrolet Aveo, and Mahindra-Renault Logan.
