GMI aims to sell 1,500 units of Chevrolet Cruze this year

23 October, 2009
General Motors India (GMI) expects to increase its total vehicle sales in the country by 10 per cent and is also targeting to sell about 1,500 units of its new model Chevrolet Cruze this year.

We expect 10 per cent growth this year and plan to sell close to 75,000 units this year against last year's 65,000 units." This year's growth could be in double digits, GMI Vice-President P Balendran told reporters.

“We have (already) received 1,200 orders (for the new model) and expect to sell about 800 units a month initially,” he said.

The new Chevrolet Cruze, which was launched in Kerala today, is being offered in two variants -- LT, with an introductory price range of Rs 11 lakh (Ex-Showroom), and LTZ (Rs 12 lakh : Ex-Showroom) in six colours.

Despite the recession last year, General Motors registered a 9.6 per cent growth by selling 65,702 units in 2008 against 60,032 units sold in 2007, he said.

GM’s new mini car will be rolled out by December this year and it would be a premium hatchback, he said adding the company had also entered into a MOU with Reva for manufacturing electric car by October next.
