Nissan Plans to Launch Light Commercial Vehicles

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan has announced to launch light commercial vehicles in India by 2010. The company already has a good market of light commercial vehicle in countries like Japan, China and Europe. After the announcement of launching entry level car in India, it is now planning to get into the light commercial vehicles segment.

Apart from India and USA, LCVs are also scheduled to launch in Russia by September, 2008. Initially, the company plans to sell 13 LCVs in India. In an interview, Simon Sproule, VP of Nissan said, “LCVs offers another platform to grab Indian market. Our focus initially is on passenger vehicles. Globally, the LCV business has been very successful and it can contribute much more to the overall business in the future.

The company already shares about 45% of the global LCV market and now plans to tap the 1.4 lakh unit strong Indian LCV market. Nissan along with the small car project with Bajaj has a joint venture with Ashok Leyland to build light commercial vehicles in the country. Nissan has also signed an agreement with Renault for developing ultra-low cost cars. The company is setting up a plant for passenger cars in Chennai with a capacity of four lakh units per annum for the same.
