Tata Nano Launched in India

23 March, 2009
The most awaited world's cheapest car 'Nano' is finally launched in India at the Gymkhana Club in Mumbai. The launch ceremony was a big day for Ratan Tata as it witnessed the birth of his dream car.

Speaking at a Press Conference, Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Motors said, “The Nano represents the spirit of breaking conventional barriers. From the drawing board to its commercial launch, the concept, development, and productionisation of the car has overcome several challenges. It is to the credit of the team at Tata Motors that a car once thought impossible by the world is now a reality. I hope it will provide safe, affordable, four-wheel transportation to families who till now have not been able to own a car. We are delighted in presenting the Tata Nano to India and the world.”

It is equipped with a 624cc rear-positioned inline 2 petrol engine that generates a power of 33 bhp. Paired to the engine is the intelligent Bosch's new Value Motronic system that is aimed at providing maximum functionality at minimum cost. The powerful engine and the associated technology enable the car to have a top speed of 105 kmph and deliver an impressive fuel efficiency of 23.6 km/litre, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under mandated test conditions.

The car is aerodynamically designed with a length of 3.1 m, width of 1.5 m and height of 1.6 m. It also offers an incredible spacious passenger compartment and a high seating position that provide an easy ingress and egress. The smaller size coupled with a turning radius of 4 m improves the maneuverability of the car on congested city roads. The high fuel efficiency ensures a lower carbon dioxide emission of 101 gm / km that is the lowest amongst cars in India.

It is also packed with advanced safety features like intrusion-resistant doors, crumple zones, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body to offer improved safety to all car owners.

The world's cheapest car is available in three variants - Nano Standard (BSII and BSIII), Nano CX (BSII and BSIII), and Nano LX (BSIII) priced at Rs 1 Lakh, Rs 1.24 Lakh, and Rs 1.34 Lakh, respectively.
