In talks with Tata to set up assembly unit at Sanand: Kinetic

18 January, 2012
Pune-based Kinetic Engineering Ltd on tuesday said it is in discussions with Tata Motors for setting up an assembly unit at Sanand to supply components for its small car Nano.

"We had discussed with Tata Motors about a potential assembly unit at Sanand. As far as I know the discussions are still on but we have not gone ahead with it. We have been able to meet all the demand from our current factory," Kinetic Engineering Vice Chairperson Sulajja Firodia Motwani told reporters here on the sidelines of a FICCI event.

She added the company was still supplying components to Nano from its Ahmednagar facility. The company supplies gears and shafts for Tata Nano.

"We have been very committed to the Nano program from the beginning. We remain very bullish on the car (Nano)," Motwani added.

Besides, she said the company is also looking to roll out products for Piaggio and Mahindra Navistar in the next 2-3 months.

"We have two very important programmes which are ready to roll out...one is gearbox for Piaggio’s Ape Druk, the four wheeler, which is on a new engine platform and the other is a completely new assembled gearbox for Mahindra Navistar trucks which again is expected to start in 2012," Motwani said.

She added that the company was also looking to bring new technologies, especially in transmission area.

On company’s exports she said: "We went through a difficult time in 2008-09, due to the global issues and now the exports are becoming stabilised."

The company’s domestic customers include Mahindra Group, Tata Motors, Piaggio and Cararo. Internationally, the company supplies components to Bombardier.
