car manufacturer of India, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported sales of 13.3 per cent in 2007-08. This has been the highest annual sales ever reported by
Maruti. However, the sales in the month of March were down by 2.1 per cent compared to corresponding year last month.
Report depict that the company has sold 7,64,842 vehicles in the outgoing fiscal year of 2007-08 year. In comparison the company had sold 6,74,924 units in the last fiscal year. The sales was driven by the A2 segment which comprises Maruti car models Alto, Zen Estilo, Wagon R and Swift, recorded a 13.4 percent increase in sales with 4,99,280 units against 4,40,357 units in the last fiscal year.
The A3 mid-size sedan segment also witnessed a phenomenal growth under which include SX4 and newly launched Swift DZire. The segment witnessed sales of 49,335 units compare to last fiscal year which report sales of only 29,697 units.
Swift Dzire, though launched in March has already sold 5,658 units. Maruti ranked highest in mid-size
sedans seller list for the first time, beating the traditional rivals like Honda, Hyundai and Ford, who have an impressive lineup of sedans.
In the small car segment, M800 sales fell by 12.2 percent with sales of 69,553 units against the sales of 79,245 in the fiscal year 2006-07. The fast moving Alto crossed the 2 lakh mark for the second time consecutively, after sales touched 2,27,173 units in 2007-08.
The export rose to 34.9 percent after clocking 53,024 units as compared to 39,295 units in the last financial year. Moreover, the sales in domestic market went up marginally after recording sales of 7,11,818 units against the 6,35,629 units. It is a growth of 12 percent from the last fiscal year.
