General Motors has once again beaten expectation of
auto industry and has recorded a whopping 51 per cent increase in sales in March 2008. The company has earlier recorded 80 per cent growth in February. This is when the industry average growth is 14 per cent.
General Motors sold 4,542 units in the corresponding month last year. According to company officials the sales performance has been the highest ever monthly sales record by General Motors India.
The sales of
Chevrolet Tavera were the highest among its five models sold in India. In the month of March, the company recorded a sale of 1820 units of Tavera, 1589 units of sedan Aveo, 710 units of Optra, 2397 units of small car Spark and 320 units of Captiva.
The company???s sales jumped by 71 percent in the last fiscal (2007-08) and recorded a sale of 66,543 units. In the corresponding month, last year, a total of 38,857 units were sold.
Commenting on the impressive sales performance, vice president of General Motors India, Mr. P Balendran said ???The sales performance clearly reflects the customer confidence in our products. The growth has been steadily increasing with every month. All our models are witnessing success over the last year.???
GM India, a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation manufactures all its models at the state-of-art-manufacturing facility located at Halol, Gujarat. It is setting up a new plant at Talegaon in Pune, which is scheduled to open this year.
General Motors which is represented through Chevrolet brand of cars has wide network of dealers and service outlets. The company is expanding its marketing base with 125 dealers and 135 servicing outlets in India. The company also plans to set up a powertrain facility in India to support its production facilities.
General Motors has been planning to produce 2.25 lakh cars per annum in India with nearly 1.4 lakh being produced at the Talegaon facility.
