Toyota Motor Corporation, world's second largest car company will launch the Lexus brand in India in next one or two years. Lexus is one of the highest selling global marquee brands and it will compete with other luxury brands
BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volvo and Audi which are already ruling Indian roads.
Keeping in mind the growing demand for
luxury cars in India and the exciting line-up of products from other foreign car manufacturers like American, European and Japanese car manufacturers, Toyota is contemplating to release stylish and elegant LS 460 sedan and LX 470 sports utility vehicle (SUV) in India in next two years, besides, it also plans to roll out another SUV, the RX 330, in the domestic market.
Refusing to give more information on debut of Lexus in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) deputy managing director K K Swamy said that since it is the matter of policy, we do not want to give any comments on our future launches. However, sources from the automobile industry confirmed that Toyota wants to maintain the distinct identity of the Lexus in India as in the other developed markets of North America, Europe, and Africa.
Sources said that the company has begun the preliminary groundwork to finalise its strategy and dedicated dealership network which will be different from the network that sells Toyota's existing cars like the Innova, Corolla and Camry. The exclusive dealers for the Lexus range will be selected under a new marketing strategy who will only concentrate in metros and major cities across the country.
These dealers will also sell Toyota's small car which is expected to launch in domestic market by 2010.
