Volkswagen to Source Auto Components worth 60 Billions from India

Volkswagen AG, the renowned luxury car manufacturer from Germany is boarding on component sourcing drive from India. The company is expected to order car components worth around Rs 60 billion for its global operations from India in a span of two years.

Volkswagen is also targeting at about 70 percent localisation of its cars produced in India within two years of initial operations at its manufacturing plant at Pune in Maharashtra.According to Bernd Martin, Volkswagen AG global Head of Purchase, “The company aims to give priority to local suppliers for the upcoming car Polo once the Pune plant starts operations by the end of 2009”.

Currently, the company makes annual purchases of 70 billion euro worth auto components from suppliers across the globe and now plans to lock at least one billion euro worth component from Indian supplier firms.
