11 April, 2008
After having acquired the iconic British models, Tata Motors is preparing to establish itself in the African Continent. Presently South Africa is growing as export market and expected to increase further in near future. The company has prepared a comprehensive plan to set up commercial vehicles manufacturing and assembly facilities in the continent.

As part of its grand plans the Tatas have already started working on expansion of its Rosslyn plant in South Africa. With the expansion, the Tata’s will start assembling the Nano car in order market in Africa, according to a Tata Motors spokesman.

Tata Motors is also conducting a feasibility study for starting assembling of pick-up trucks in Senegal. Earlier the company had marketed buses by exporting completely knocked down (CKD) kits. The company is planning to come up with products like the cab range, luxury buses, mini buses and more.

Tata Motors has supplied 228 buses to the Congo government for urban transportation during the last fiscal. The expansion comes at a time when Tata Motors is also contemplating to increase prices of its vehicles to absorb the increasing cost of raw materials.
