Most bureaucrats choose retired life after their entire hectic work life, but this is not true for former Managing Director of
Maruti Suzuki India, Mr. Jagadish Khattar. He now plans to begin multi-brand automobile service stations across the country. The chain of service stations is expected to start by this year end.
“We will start operations in 2009 and then expand it in a phased manner across the country. Now I am going to compete with the sector I have worked for by setting up a network of automobile service stations.” Khattar said.
“Owners of cars, of different make, have to avail services stations of different kind. This is quite frustrating for the owners as they cannot get a one shot solutions for all their cars. Our service station will cater owners of cars of all makes and brands.” he said.
Mr. Khattar said the idea behind his project is to provide a wholesome servicing and offer ultimate convenience to those who own several brands of Indian
cars.
Mr. Khattar who has been a bureaucrat all his life chose to become an entrepreneur at the age of 65, after he quit
Maruti Suzuki India Limited. He embarked on a new project in his new office spread across 600 square feet.
“My current office is smaller than what I enjoyed in MSIL.” he added. Mr. Khattar is busy recruiting people for key positions in his new company to take his ambitious project. He has already formed a team of 7-8 people and many more young people are likely to be recruited.
As a bureaucrat he has 37 years in administrative services and another 14 years of service with the then PSU
Maruti Udyog limited. He steered the company towards profit. He was also the president of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for the period 2003–2005.
