Volvo to launch new SUV in 2009

10 March, 2008
The Volvo Car Corporation is planning to launch its popular Sports Utility Vehicle XC60 in India next year. Unveiling the XC60 at the ongoing Geneva Motor show, Volvo announced that the SUV would be added to its product portfolio in the country. The new SUV will hit Indian roads in early 2009.

With the launch of the XC60, the number of Volvo luxury car models sold in India will increase to 3 in just six months of Volvo’s arrival to India. “We will be broadening our product range and attract more urban customers with a high end lifestyle”, said Volvo Car India MD Paul D. Vojis while speaking to reporters in New Delhi.

Volvo Car India, a division of the Ford Motor Company, markets its products through only three dealers in India. These dealers are concentrated in Northern India in the cities of Delhi, Chandigarh, and Mumbai.

The company, which entered the Indian market in September 2007, has so far launched its flagship sedan S80 and the XC90 SUV. The Volvo S80 is priced from Rs. 38 lakh and upwards. The Volvo XC90 SUV comes from Rs. 45 lakh.
