Mahindra to launch high-end Logan

09 June, 2008
Mahindra Renault Logan will no longer be the poor man’s sedan. It is now heading the luxury way with the plan to launch new edition of Logan, which will target the high-end car buyers. The new variant of the car is likely to hit the roads by July.

Speaking to press reporters about the intended launch, The Managing Director of Mahindra Renault, Mr. Rajesh Jejurikar said, “The luxury variant will be launched in a couple of months. It will come fully loaded with high-end music system, re-designed upholstery and brighter interiors with high-end convenience factors. The car will be made with high-end customers in mind.”

It would also be equipped with safety features like air bags, anti-lock brake system. The model with new features will further re-establish the brand, he said.

The company had received good response to its high-end variants of the existing Logan like the GLS and DLS. Encouraged by this the company is trying to further upgrade the model for new range of customers.

The Logan was developed in joint venture between Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra and French car manufacturer Renault Motors. Logan sales were climbing up the graph for the last one year, but the sales dipped after the launch of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire. Logan is pitted against other sedan like Honda City, Ford Fiesta, Maruti Suzuki SX4. The company recorded sales of 1,531 cars in May, which is down from 2,551 cars sold in corresponding month last year.

Mahindra does not have any small car in its portfolio and Logan is the only sedan in the group of SUVs. The company is banking heavily on Logan to garner large sales volume. The sales of SUVs have been slow as they do not have a large market in India. Renault is also likely to launch an ultra-small car in joint venture with Bajaj Autos and Nissan Motors.
