Audi’s Global Sales Experience 11 percent Dip

Audi AG, German luxury car manufacturer’s global sales experienced a dip of 11 percent in the month of March.

In March 2009, Ingolstadt-based Audi, unit of Volkswagen AG sold 90,400 units against 101,251 in March 2008. In the between the darker side of the sales, the company also saw some positive sales with the launch of Audi Q5 from the SUV segment.

According to Peter Schwarzenbauer (board member for sales and marketing), “The trend is positive. Our monthly results have been continually improving since January, a difficult month for everybody.”

However in the Asia-Pacific region, the March 2009 sales were raised by 5 per cent to 15,600 vehicles and the Chinese market saw an improvement of 7 per cent, with 11,848 cars sold. In the markets of Canada, Audi sales went high by 25 per cent in March by selling 979 units.

In the U.S. market sales dropped nearly by 20 percent with 6,433 cars sold, down from 7,986 in March 2008. In 2009 March, the car manufacturer sold 61,200 cars in Western Europe last compared to 70,269 units in March 2008. However, there were some positive sales growth in the individual markets like Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Though there was a decline in the sales, the luxury car manufacturer observed an increase in its market share by 1.3 percent.
