Tata Motors introduces Xenon in Bangkok

04 April, 2008
After creating a flutter in global auto industry by acquiring two British luxury brands-Jaguar and Land Rover at $2.3 billion, now Tata Motors have expanded its business to Bangkok by launching its pick-up Xenon at the Bangkok Motor Show.

By launching Xenon, Tata Motors have officially started and launched their operations in Thailand. The Xenon was the centre of attraction during the Motor Show as Tata is only Indian company being participated in this show.

Keeping in mind the people’s craze for pick-ups in countries like Thailand and Malaysia, Tata has designed Xenon. Xenon’s body is sculpted with 0.8 - 1.5 mm-thick steel sheets which is thicker than any other pick-ups in the market, claimed the company.

Tata Motors is also planning to cash in on its supplier base in India in a bigger way since nearly 60 percent of components would be exported from India to Thailand at its small facility near Bangkok.

The Xenon will compete in a market largely dominated by the Japanese players. The Xenon will be available X-tend Cab and Double cab body styles which boast of a 2.2-litre Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) engine with Variable Turbine Technology (VTT) and intercooler. The Xenon delivers impressive 140 hp of power.

Sources said that the Xenon is being assembled at the Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP). Tata Motors Thailand is a joint venture of 70:30 between Tata Motors and Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant. The company aims to sell about 5000 units in the first year in Thailand. However, the Xenon will be the cheapest pick-ups available in the market in Thailand.
