Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) is all set to enter the small car segment with its compact car Jazz which is expected to hit the Indian shores by mid 2009. Initially the car will be manufactured from the Greater Noida plant with vital components and metal sheet body panel from its new unit at Tapukara in Rajasthan.

This premium hatchback is Honda’s first small car to India was displayed at the 2008 Auto Expo and received a tremendous response, which inspired the company to pre-pone the launch to mid of next year.

Honda Jazz would be propelled by 1.2 litres i-DSI engine churning out 77 bhp and is expected to carry the price tag of Rs 5 lakh.

According to Honda Motor Company CEO and president, Takeo Fukui, “the company started with the premium cars and then gradually expanded the portfolio. With the entry into the small car segment, Honda will further strengthen its position in the market.”

He further added that the company for some of its selected model could utilize India as an export hub if it complimented with other global manufacturing places such as Thailand; however, the main concern of each operation would be aiming on their respective domestic markets.
