Nano to hit roads by October

03 March, 2008
Just like Tata Motors launched the People’s Car Nano and beat critics who said it would be postponed till next year, it will now deliver Nano to people before time. The Tata Nano could be delivered to public by October.

Talking about it, Managing Director Ravi Kant told media persons “We are maintaining the schedule of the car launch for the second half of next fiscal.” He said that the trial production of the car would start in June or July.  The commercial production of the car will begin two months from the date of commencement of trial production. Hence, if the process goes uninterrupted, the mass production of the cars will begin in October and will reach customers by that month end.

The plant equipment will arrive shortly and the ultra-cheap car will roll out of the facility in the last quarter of this year, just around the Diwali festival. Tata plans to manufacture 2.5 million units in the first year of production. He was there to survey the construction work at its new production facility located 40kms from Kolkata. The construction work is undertaken by Shapoorji Pallonji, a civil construction company.

He said that the apart from Tata Motors, other agencies were also involved in putting together the action plan to ensure that the work progressed smoothly. After discussing the issue of sewerage in the production facility, as it was located in a low lying area and monsoon rain could wreck havoc on the plant. He said that canals will dig inside the plant area to allow for free flow of rainwater.

Finances
Even while company officials are busy preparing for its commercial launch, loan lenders across the country are busy drawing up attractive schemes.

Have a look at this, Saraswat bank is offering a loan of Rs 70,000 to Nano buyers at an EMI of 1,199 for seven years. They have fixed the rate of interest at 11.11.5 per cent, which is cheaper than two-wheelers which come at interest of 18-20 percent.

Banks are also looking at non-metros as busiest regions, where Tata Nano is sure to score the highest. Many other finance institutions are expected to come up with attractive packages over the next few months. Not to be left behind Tata Motors will finance Nano buyers through the in-house Tata Motors Finance Company.

A birds’ eye-view of the situation will reveal that Tata is getting ready for a war. But is a war of a different kind- a corporate war where business houses rule.
