Hyundai Sales Drop by 1.8 percent in March

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) and has registered a decline of 1.8% in cumulative sales for the month of March 2009. The car manufacturer recorded a drop of 15.8% in domestic sales but the export grew by 21.6%.

The overall sales for March stood at 46,160 units compared to 47,001 units in March, 2008. Sales in the domestic market accounted for 24,754 units in contrast to 29,401 units for the corresponding month last year whereas the exports accounted for 21,406 units in March 2009 compared to 17,600 units sold in March 2008.

Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice President of Hyundai, said, “As we had stated last month the industry is far from seeing a turn around at this moment. If we look at the February and March sales combined and compare to 2008 for the same period then we have registered a growth of 4.5% whereas March '09 sales over February '09 have grown by 16.7%.“

The segment-wise cumulative sales of Hyundai cars in the month of March 2009 are 41,802 units of A2 Segment comprising the Santro, i10, Getz, and the i20; 4,285 units of A3 Segment comprising the Accent and the Verna; 70 units of Sonata Transform; and 3 units of SUV Tucson.
