Ford to supply Ikon Flair to Government departments

02 April, 2008
The Central Government has given its nod to the US car major Ford Motors to supply its sedan Ikon Flair for institutional purchase.

In a statement, the Ford has said that its Indian subsidiary, Ford India has signed a pact with Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D), the central purchase and quality assurance organization of the government in this regard.

The company claimed that the Ikon will be supplied to the Government departments at special prices and is an endorsement of the superiority of the Ikon as a preferred sedan in the entry level midsize segment.

Commenting on this approval, Ford India Vice President (Marketing, Sales and Service) Scott McCormack said that the approval by the Central government to supply our Ikon, a preferred sedan in entry level midsize segment came as boon to the company. It is a great achievement of the company and also indicates the quality and popularity of Ikon.

It may be recalled here that Ford India had already supplied its SUV Endeavour and sedan Fiesta to various government and public sector undertakings in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka among others. Right now, apart from the Ikon, Ford India will also sell other vehicles such as Fiesta, compact car Fusion and SUV Endeavour from its platform in India.
