The five-seater hatchback has managed to capture hearts, emerging as the top selling car in India as on April 2012, overtaking the top selling model, Maruti Alto. Introduced in India in 2007, the diesel version of the Swift is powered by a 4-cylinder DDiS Diesel Engine with a displacement of 1248 cc, Swift generates a maximum output of 75 PS @4000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission system, generating a maximum torque of 190 Nm @ 2000 rpm. Suspension in the car comprises MacPherson Strut in the front and Torsion Beam in the rear. Some of the safety features of the car include dual airbags, ABS, front head restraint and child locks in the rear door. The extremely fuel efficient diesel engine offers a mileage of 22.9 kmpl on the city roads and 23.8 kmpl on the highways.

The new Maruti Swift Dzire comes in four petrol and 3 diesel variants. The diesel variant is powered by a 1.3 litre DOHC engine with a displacement of 1248cc. The DDiS has a superior CRDi fuel injection system with turbocharger and intercooler which offers efficient combustion and a maximum torque of 190 Nm @4000 rpm. The superior DDiS engine contributes to an excellent mileage of 23.4 kmpl on the highways. Peak power of 74 bhp is produced at 4000 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission system. Key features of the Dzire include a superior design and high quality seat fabric, automatic unlock in case of an accident, front ventilated disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear.
The premium diesel city hatchback version of the Hyundai
i20 has been influenced strongly by European designs. The i20 is powered by a refined 1396 cc, 1.4 litre CRDi engine with 16-valves which generates a maximum power of 90 bhp @4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 220 Nm at 1750-2750 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission system. The car gives out a mileage of 20.2 kmpl on the city roads and 23.6 kmpl on the highways. The i20 is equipped with a highly responsive light steering, making it an ideal city car. The design and style of the car is influenced by both the Fiesta and Fusion. Ford Figo is powered by a 1.4 litre Dura Torq14 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1,399 cc. The car generates a maximum power of 68 bhp @4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm @ 2000 rpm. The engine, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission system, contributes to a mileage of 14.1 kmpl on the city roads and 18.5 kmpl on the highways. The suspension system employed in the car is an Independent MacPherson Strut with Dual Path Mounts in the front and Semi independent Twist Beam with Coil Springs in the rear portion.
