Mercedes-Benz had ruled the Indian roads. But today, many car manufacturers have made their place in the car industry. One such luxury automobile manufacturer is the Porsche.
Porsche, the German car manufacturer is the renowned sport car manufacturing company that was established by Ferdinand Porsche in the year 1900. Porsche manufacturing plant was established at Stuttgart in Germany, in the year 1931. Further Porsche manufacturing plant was built by Ferdinand Porsche who named it “The Porsche Engineering Office.”

The only Porsches available were the sleek sports cars, but the manufacturer has recently expanded its lineup to include other car segment.
The first
sports car bearing the name Porsche was rolled out in 1948. Porsche entered the Indian automobile market in the year 2003, through an organization called Shreyans Motors Pvt. Ltd. They were the first to introduce the Porsche brand of luxury and utility vehicle in the super premium car segment in India in 2003. All through its journey, Porsche has shown amazing buoyancy with the changing economic climate and remained an independent player. Porsche is fanatical to expand its network in India and to make a strong presence in the country. The company believes that easier and attractive finance schemes would bring them more customers that would further help to enhance their sales in the country.
The Porsche cars are highly expensive and their price in India starts from 47 lakh and above. The higher stratum of the Indian society is the targeted customer of the Porsche cars. Porsche India sells various models including the Cayman, Cayenne, Boxster, Carrera 911. Porsche recently rolled out the limited version of its Gold Porsche Boxster which is the first gold plated car. The Cayenne is priced at Rs 73 lakh for its entry-level model and the top-end Cayenne Turbo is priced at Rs 83 lakh.
They are also planning to bring their new models in India including the hybrid edition of Cayenne and the model Panamera. Presently Porsche India has two importing centers, one in New Delhi and the other in Mumbai. The company is also planning to establish dealerships in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. The car manufacturer has recently set up a new office in India and will work with the Volkswagen, which is also expected to open its production unit in the country.
The Porsche Cayenne model is the best selling model in SUV segment in the Indian market. The Boxster, Cayman and 911 range is also ruling the sport car segment in the country. The trend is expected to continue with the launch of the model Panamera in 2009.
