The Warning Signs in a Car

The car speaks to you and if you do not listen to it on time, it might just lead on to another car trouble that can prove disastrous. It is always important that we should give proper attention to the warning signs that the car displays from time to time. As the name indicates, these signs always warn us of some problem and sometimes remind us of things which we haven't noticed.
  1. Seat Belt: It should be noticed that in most car accidents, the injury have become fatal because of the ignorance of the usage of seat belts. So in cars where they have the option of seat belt, the warning lamp pops up and will start blinking as soon as we get inside the car which reminds the passenger to wear the seat belt. And this will keep on blinking as long as the passengers fasten their seat belts. And at any time during the journey if a passenger removes the seat belt the lamp will come on again. In certain cars there is also audio warning which will remind the passengers to fasten their seat belts.
  2. Anti-lock Braking System: ABS is another safety feature that is available in cars these days. Every time the ignition is switched on, the ABS lamp illuminates for a few seconds, which is quite normal. If there is any problem with the ABS, the warning lamps pops up when the vehicle is started and it will not go off even after the car is started. It can still indicate a problem if the lamp comes on even when the car is moving and if the ABS gets activates every now and then; all of this wrong functioning indicates that the ABS is not working and that it needs urgent attention. One can still drive a car with these problems as the brake of the vehicle will be working in a very fine condition. But if the car indicates a brake failure never drive the vehicle but inform a mechanic to get the problem sorted.
  3. Airbag: Airbag is another safety feature that most cars these days are equipped with. At the event of a collision, the airbag inflates so that the passenger will not strike against any interiors of the car including the steering wheel or the window. While starting the car, along with the other warning signs, the lamp denoting the airbag facility will also be turned on. It will remain on for a few seconds and will then go off. If the airbag symbol does not turn on at the time of ignition, then it denotes a faulty airbag system and it needs to be inspected very soon. If the airbag does not function properly, then it will not blow up at the event of an accident, which can prove very disastrous.
  4. Handbrake: The handbrake warning lights are usually on when the handbrakes are been engaged, but if it remains on in spite of the handbrake being not engaged indicates some defects in the functioning of the handbrake. And what this usually indicates is the considerably low level of the brake fluid. This condition is usually caused because of a leak in the brake lines or the absence of the brake fluid. Either ways the brake fluid level needs to be checked and get it fixing immediately, as this is very essential in the performance of the braking system, which directly affects the safety of the passengers.

  1. Steering: Except for the old versions that are not been updated, most of the new car models come equipped with power steering. If the lamp indicating the steering stays then there should be some problem in the system or it could even mean a complete failure of the system. In such a case, the car needs to be taken to a mechanic very fast as it will be very hard to drive a car with a steering that is not functioning properly.
  2. Fuel: Apart from the metre which indicates the fuel level in the car, there is also a fuel warning lamp that comes up if the fuel level of the car goes to the reserve level. It is advisable to refill the car from the nearest fueling station, otherwise the car will run out of fuel and will stop. Most of the cars will go further distance even after the fuel warning lamp goes on, but it is always better to not take chances.
  3. Oil Level: If the lamp indicating the oil level comes on when the car is in motion, it warns about the low engine level and reminds of refilling the engine oil. If the oil level warning light comes on one need to immediately switch off the engine and check the level of the engine oil. Driving a car which has low level of engine oil is very harmful for the car engine.
  4. Temperature: Either when the coolant temperature is too high or the coolant level is too low, the temperature warning lamp will turn on to indicates the same. If the lamp is on, stop the car immediately and be careful to not open the radiator cap as it will be hot and may cause injury. Check whether there is a leak in the coolant and refill the coolant to the recommended level.
  5. Engine: The lamp indicating the engine should go off few seconds after the car has been started, but if doesn't go off, and still remains when the car is in on the move, and then it warns of a malfunctioning engine. It is best to stop the engine and then start it again, if the problem still persists, then it is better to take the car to a near-by mechanic as delaying a service will cause serious trouble for the car engine.
  6. Air pressure: If the rolling circumference of the car wheel changes, then it denotes that the car tyre is not in a good condition, heavily loaded axle, or low air pressure in tyres. The condition of the wheel should be checked and should replace the tyre or do the needful as soon as possible.
There are still more car sigs which indicates faulty alternator, ESP, drop in washer fluid, and remind of an unclosed boot door or hood. These are not talking cars but being silent they can still convey what they want.
