bullet 41. How Full is Your Tank?

The fuel cap needs to be tightened properly and the fuel tank needs to be kept more than half full, especially during the colder seasons. Wonder why? There is a very high possibility of moist air filling the void above the fuel in your tank and making itself comfortable there. Then there's a possibility of this moist air condensing to water. Since water is denser than gasoline, it settles in the bottom of your tank. If enough accumulates, it'll be delivered through the fuel line to the engine which definitely is no good sign.

bullet 42. Car Learning Space for Teen Drivers

Young drivers often panic and have just one goal in mind; reaching the destination. So, it's always safer to find a dirt road or an empty parking lot to teach your teen to drive. Teach the young driver to look where they want to go and turn the wheel in that direction. While you're there, have them practice correcting a skid. Also, since everything in the car can be a potential distraction while learning to drive, cell phones and music are a strict no. Texting can be the worst distraction of all as drivers who text are 23 times as likely to crash as those who don't.

bullet 43. Never Change Abruptly

If you've just learnt to drive, remember, there should never be abrupt changes in speed and direction should while behind the wheel. In simpler words, a capable driver will not accelerate quickly, slow down in a hurry, or turn when he/she sees anything petty on the road.

bullet 44. Dealing with a Mechanic

When your car has a problem and you take it to the mechanic, explain what you know about the problem in detail. You hear a noise? That's fine. But explain to the mechanic the kind of noise your car makes, when exactly you hear it and where. It could be something like, "I hear a high-pitched squeal when I accelerate, and then it stops after reaching 50 kmph." An expert mechanic will know what's wrong immediately and your detailed explanation can save the mechanic time while saving you money.

bullet 45. Seat Belt v/s Airbags

If you're one of those who think a seatbelt is not really necessary since your car has been strapped with airbags, you're wrong. In fact, sitting in a running car unbuckled can turn an airbag into a deadly weapon. Research proves that in case of a collision, drivers without the seatbelt put to proper use are at a greater risk of suffering neck or spinal injuries. The reason being, if you aren't buckled up during a collision, your head is going to dive into the airbag at full speed while the airbag itself is heading towards you at a much greater speed. It's more like an airbag-head collision.

bullet 46. The Positioning of Your Feet

It has been observed that most people use their toe on the accelerator. This makes it harder to keep steady pressure and leads to excess fuel consumption. Drive with your foot flat on the pedal, ease up on the accelerator a bit, and lower your top speed on the smoother roads and highways.

bullet 47. Use Your Fog Lights

Did you know that the fog light beams can cut through water vapour better than regular headlights can? Fog lights are specially designed lights to cut through the fog to provide better visibility during bad weather condition. They produce a short but wide spread bar-shaped beam which falls close to the car. This allows the driver to see the edges of the road and a bit ahead without the glare of the main headlights reflecting off the fog. Fog lights provide better visibility and help the driver to avoid accident in foggy climate, dim light situations or while driving at night.

bullet 48. Stop a Spreading Crack

If something has damaged your windshield, you can act fast and to avoid the high cost of replacing the windshield. So long as the chip is very small and hardly noticeable, a glass shop can fill the crack with an optically matched resin that should prevent the spread of cracks. Most car insurance providers waive the deductible and cover this cost-saving procedure. But anything larger and you might need a new pane of glass.

bullet 49. Getting a New Car at the Best Price

Finding a new car that you've always dreamt of at the best price is better said than done. However, knowledge can be the weapon that can weaken even the strongest. Whether you're buying your new car at an auction, online, or through some other means, just go in armed and educated. Proper research on the car you're looking to buy can help you a great deal.

bullet 50. Stay Stubborn with Your Offer

Since you've browsed on the Internet, have your new car quotes ready and you know what price to get down to; explain that to the dealer. Let him not interrupt you until you finish the explanation. In case he does so, raise your hand a little which will be an indication for him to stop. Explain to the dealer that it's not just you who's getting a profit. He too is getting it when you come back in future for warranty repairs, services or parts. Give him the bigger picture. Let him get your point, or you leave. If he points out explaining he would have no profit with that deal, show him your research data.
