The Classy Classic Cars

Were you one of the bidders at the classic cars' auction in Scottsdale, Arizona? If you weren't, here's what you missed out. This article contains details about a few classy classic cars auctioned during the event. A series of collector automobile auctions were conducted in the Phoenix suburb. In fact, the finest selection of quality collector cars was found there, thus making the auction worthwhile. Scottsdale indeed has its share of innovative concept cars like the high-end Ferrari automobiles. However, American muscle cars from the 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s were the biggest draws.

bullet Parade of Progress Tour Bus

Parade of Progress Tour BusThe long General Motors Futurliner Parade of Progress Tour Bus of 1950 had hidden inside it a 10-metre long engine. There were a dozen vehicles used for road shows in the 1940s and 1950s. These "Parade of Progress" road shows used specially outfitted tour buses to parade the new models manufactured by General Motors. The tour bus here, which carried the load of the new models, now enjoys the load of a rather heavy price tag of $4,320,000. The floor mats were sold separately at the auction. Other than this tour bus, only two of the twelve have been restored to their full glory. This Futurliner is fully serviceable and has traveled around Canada in corporate promotions. The vehicle is considered to be a matchless icon of the U.S. auto industry at the height of its supremacy and control.

bullet Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama Concept Car

Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama Concept CarThe 1954 Pontiac comes equipped with an 8-cylinder 268-bhp engine. Being one of the flashiest cars of the 1950s, this concept car gives a tip-off about the future designs of GM's Bonneville line of cars. It was the first two-seater sports car Pontiac ever produced. The Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama car is the west coast sibling of two other unique vehicles built by GM. Nothing so fantastic has ever been produced on a large scale, so GM chief designer Harley Earl's gull-winged design remained stranded. The concept, however, is going to haunt the enthusiastic car buyers at the auction who couldn't buy this one. Only the lucky bidder got it for a massive $3,024,000.

bullet Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda Two-Door Convertible

Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda Two-Door ConvertibleHave you seen a rocket ship? Well, this 1970 car is one such rocket ship with a tiny twist. It moves on the road. Swift, powerful, bold and inquisitive like a Barracuda, this road rocket ship was only 1 of 14 similarly outfitted 425-bhp Hemi V-8 engine models of 1970. This special car was made for a Chrysler executive who had bought it under a special lease program. For those waiting for more on the car, it even includes the factory-installed AM radio with stereo eight-track tape player in the dash. The two-door convertible went for an amazing $2,160,000 at the Scottsdale auction. The car's stock motor was snatched during a drag race and was placed back together after many years. So, the original odometer still reads lesser than 500 kilometer.

bullet Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible

Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 ConvertibleDo you know what length of distance this car has travelled? Mind you, it is a 1970 Chevrolet model. The car odometer shows a distance of just a 100 km. There's something more special about this car. The car's autobiography reveals that this was the special car Ray Allen drove to win many races since the time it was born. The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 convertible won races like the U.S. Nationals and the Super Nationals and became widely popular as the Killer Car. The victory at the various races must be the reason for the heavy $1,242,000 tag. The car comes strapped with a 454 bhp LS6 V-8 engine. It was backed by either an M22 "Rock Crusher" 4-speed manual or hard-shifting M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.
