Upcoming SUVs in India in 2010 Part-II

This is the second part to our article Upcoming SUVs in India in 2010 Part I. We have observed that SUVs are gaining high popularity in India. The year 2009 witnessed many SUV launches in India and the New Year promises us with lot more. This article will cover the remaining SUVs that will make inroads in India, in the year 2010.

bullet Nissan Murano

Nissan Murano
The Nissan Murano will make its presence in the Indian market in the first quarter of next year. The Murano will compete with the latest SUV brands in India such as Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Toyota Prado, BMW X3 and Mitsubishi Montero. The stylish car combines the lustrous appearance of a coupe with the powerful engine of a sports car. The Murano will be available in three variants in India. The top-end model of the Nissan Murano will be equipped with an all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle and will be powered by a 3.5-liter petrol V6 engine that will deliver 265 horsepower. The Murano is capable of zooming from stationary position to 100km/h in less than 9 seconds. Aluminum interior accents, leather seats, rain sensing wipers, memory seats and mood lighting, besides an 11-speaker Bose unit, with 9.3 GB hard-disk storage and head-rest mounted LCD screens for passengers in the rear are the other attractive features of the car.

bullet Toyota Avanza

Toyota Avanza
The Toyota Innova has been the segment leader since it launch. Now, Toyota Motor Corporation is going to launch its third Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV), the Avanza in the Indian market. It will be introduced at the upcoming 2010 Delhi Auto Expo. The Avanza can be positioned below the Innova and the Fortuner. The Toyota Avanza is expected to feature a 1495 cc engine. This petrol engine can develop a power of 107 bhp at 6000 rpm with a torque 141 Nm at 4400 rpm. The company could subsequently launch the Avanza in the Indian market by mid-2010.

bullet BMW X1

BMW X1
BMW will be introducing the most compact SUV yet, the X1. The X1 will tussle with the Land Rover Freelander 2. The BMW X1 will be available with a choice of three 2-litre turbo-diesel engines. The 18d can derive 143 bhp, the 20d 177 bhp and the 23d 240 bhp. A 6-speed manual transmission comes standard on the 18d and the 20d, while a 6-speed automatic gearbox comes standard in the 23d and as an option in the 20d. The BMW X1 is expected to make its Indian entry in mid-2010.

bullet Mahindra W201

Mahindra W201
Mahindra & Mahindra will present another SUV to India by the end of 2010. This upcoming SUV, codenamed W201, will be a series of firsts for the SUV maker. It's the first Mahindra car to be built with a monocoque construction and it's the company's first front-wheel-drive car too. Like, all modern monocoque SUVs, it will come with a four-wheel-drive option as well. It will be powered by a transversely located mHawk engine of 2179 cc which will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic option too. The SUV will have better dynamics as the body will be placed lower.

bullet Mercedes-Benz GLK

The Mercedes-Benz GLK will give a tough competition to the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 in India by the end of 2010. The GLK is a mix of old-school lines and contemporary design that brings back to mind the legendary G-class. The Mercedes-Benz GLK will be driven by a 234 bhp 3-litre turbo diesel engine that can derive a torque of 530Nm. The interior of the GLK is based on the C-class. The SUV offers amazing off-roading capacity as it comes with all-wheel-drive system.

Land Rover Range Rover
The Land Rover Range Rover will come with a new look in the coming new year. The Range Rover is a blend of luxury and power, wherein the luxurious interiors spell elegance with real wood veneers and finest leather natural grain. The Range Rover, from Tata Motors acquired British marquee brand, is packed with a new and powerful 5.0-liter LR-V8 engine. It comes out with some outstanding technologies, like the first split-screen centre console, which lets the driver watch the sat-navigation, while giving the passengers the liberty to watch a DVD from the same screen. With the augmented driving dynamics, new headlamps, LED rear lamps, large grilles, and 3-stripped LED theme, with reduced wind and power train, The Land Rover Range Rover comes out as an ultimate luxury SUV.
